The American Spanish-language sports broadcasting ecosystem is experiencing a massive seismic shift. Following the conclusion of its extensive FIFA World Cup coverage, U.S.-based network Telemundo has officially secured the exclusive U.S. Spanish-language broadcasting rights for all UEFA men’s club competitions, taking over the portfolio from its long-time rival Univision.

This landmark agreement spans three full seasons, officially kicking off with the 2027–28 campaign. Under this new deal, Telemundo gains comprehensive Spanish-language rights across the United States for a complete suite of European football tournaments, including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League, UEFA Super Cup, and UEFA Youth League.

Extensive Distribution Across Telemundo’s Media Ecosystem

Football fans across the United States can expect widespread coverage of European club football across every branch of Telemundo’s broadcasting and digital umbrella. The agreement guarantees that every UEFA Champions League season will be broadcast across NBCUniversal and Telemundo’s full portfolio of linear, streaming, and digital platforms:

  • Telemundo Network (Primary broadcast network)
  • Peacock (Subscription streaming service)
  • Universo (Cable channel)
  • Telemundo Deportes Ahora (Dedicated FAST sports streaming channel)

The acquisition marks a major transfer of broadcasting power in the U.S. market. Historically, Telemundo’s direct competitor, Univision, held the Spanish-language media rights to UEFA’s suite of European club competitions. Meanwhile, CBS continues to hold the English-language broadcast rights for UEFA competitions in the United States.

Executive Reactions and Strategic Vision

Leadership from both NBCUniversal and Telemundo expressed immense enthusiasm for expanding their football portfolio into European club competitions following their coverage of international tournaments.

“The UEFA Champions League represents the absolute pinnacle of club soccer tournaments, gathering many of the world’s most elite teams and legendary players in one of the single most prestigious competitions in all of sports,” stated Cesar Conde, Chairman of NBCUniversal News Group. “We are genuinely delighted to partner with UC3 to deliver the incredible excitement, passion, and high stakes of UEFA men’s club competitions to Spanish-speaking supporters throughout the United States. Telemundo’s unwavering commitment to broadcasting excellence and its profound connection with football audiences make it an ideal home for the UEFA Champions League.”

Echoing those sentiments, Telemundo executives highlighted the network’s momentum coming off its recent international tournament coverage:

“Building upon the unprecedented success and reach of Telemundo’s coverage during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, we are thrilled to dedicate our full expertise and operational resources toward presenting the highest level of club soccer to millions of passionate supporters across America,” added Luis Fernandez, Chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. “Our entire team is fully prepared to deliver a world-class viewing experience for all U.S. Hispanics by leveraging the complete power of Telemundo’s broadcast network, cable channels, streaming services, and digital platforms.”

With the 2027–28 season on the horizon, Telemundo is positioning itself as an undisputed powerhouse for live Spanish-language sports broadcasting in North America.
